Help Me Pick Songs For My Concert

January 19, 2014 by Ken Theriot Leave a Comment

Ken Theriot in concertMy new album – Outlaws and Bystanders – will finally be out in early March. And I’ll be putting on a CD release concert at Gulf Wars in March at The Green Dragon tavern (time and day TBA). This show will feature several of the songs from the new album, so there will not be as much time available to devote to the older songs from the current albums that a lot of folks will expect me to play. So I’ll need a way to prioritize the older songs to make sure the ones requested most will make it onto the set list. Also, it limits the number songs I have to rehearse:-P.

So this is where you come in. If you plan to be at Gulf Wars and at possibly at the concert, and if there are certain songs that that you’d really really like to hear (there are clips from the current albums below), please leave a comment below. That way I’ll have hard data as to which songs to make sure are on the set list. Currently our process is basically – “maybe we should practice THAT song because John really likes it.” It’s not that I don’t want to play that song for John. But if he’s the only one who likes the song, it doesn’t make sense to take up valuable concert time with it. So the songs that are requested by the most folks via the comments (either on this post, or the one on the Raven Boy Music site (Tell Us What Songs To Perform), or on Facebook, Twitter, or any other way you can get a vote to me.

Christmas Album And Status Of Outlaws And Bystanders

December 7, 2013 by Ken Theriot Leave a Comment

Album covers for Gifts of Midwinter plus Outlaws and BystandersI’ve been feeling a bit torn in many directions lately. It seems life comes at you randomly with a lot of entropic chaos. Since It’s the holiday season again, I’ve been doing a bit of promotion for our (with my lovely wife, Lisa Theriot) Christmas album – The Gifts of Midwinter. I’ve been doing most of that through the Raven Boy Music site and social media. But I keep forgetting that there is a Ken Theriot website too:). And of course there is a Lisa Theriot site. There actually is no Ken and Lisa Theriot site, which is actually OK since it’s one less thing to tend to. Did I mention I was feeling fractured?

Anyway – what was my point again? Oh yeah. I want to assure everyone that I am actively working on recording my new album – Outlaws and Bystanders – while doing everything else (which includes the unreasonably long recovery from a couple of surgeries this year). This very day, I will be completing the vocal for the 3rd-to-last song on the album. And we will be releasing it early in the new year. BTW, the picture at the top has an early concept rendering of Outlaws and Bystanders that Lisa put together. It is not the finalized design.

I mentioned above that we are promoting our Christmas album now also. I’ve been sort of mentioning/sharing/plugging one song every few days, usually starting on the Raven Boy Music Facebook page. I will typically link to a page about that song (which always has an audio player on it) on the Raven Boy Music web site (https://www.facebook.com/RavenBoyMusic). Then I usually fold in a link from the Ken-and-Lisa-Theriot Reverb Nation page for whatever song is on tap for that day. Of course the other social media stuff follows – Twitter, Google+, etc. I will try to keep our personal sites updated as well as that other stuff. Though I make no promises. I’m scatter-brained by design. But since I’m here now, I should mention that the song being plugged form the Christmas album this weekend is “Do You Hear What I Hear,” (lyrics by Noël Regney and music by Gloria Shayne Baker) the only modern Christmas song on the album, and the only cover. Everything else is traditional (mostly from medieval through 19th century) or original for this album (The Gifts of Midwinter, Drink to The Holly Berry).

Here the song below:

OK. Now I’m going back to the studio. Mischief managed for another day.

Cheers!

St. Crispin’s Day Song – Band of Brothers

October 25, 2013 by Ken Theriot Leave a Comment

Agincourt-pic for Band of BrothersThere’s kind of a full spread on this over at the Raven Boy Music site. But since the song is on a “Ken Theriot” album, I guess it sorta kinda makes sense to mention it here too;).

Today is St. Crispin’s Day. If you’re a fan of Shakespeare, you’ll probably know that one of the most famous “…now-go-out-there-and-kick-ass” speeches EVER was in Henry V. King Henry delivers this rousing call to inspiration just before the Battle of Agincourt in 1415. And as you know, the English went on to win the battle against overwhelming odds.

For my album – Human History – we (words by Shakespeare and Lisa Theriot, music by moi) wrote the song Band of Brothers, which essentially turns the iambic pentameter of the Henry V speech, and turns it into a pop song. How cool is that?

Anyway, you may download a free mp3 of Band of Brothers below, if you wish.

Free embed music player from ReverbNation.com

Here is a streaming only version (that works on iOS!):
